Commenting Enabled

Just a little FYI for the 2 of you who have already subscribed to the Cory Webb Media Blog RSS Feed, I have now enabled commenting on the blog with Azrul's JomComment. So feel free to jump in and tell me what you think. I will only delete your comment if I perceive it as spam or abusive to someone other than me. Those are the only 2 things I will not tolerate. Other than that, it's fair game.

Hi Jason... I love JomComment! In my opinion, it's the best commenting system available for Joomla. Another good option is Comments by JXtended.

Able to conveniently respond privately to posters via email?

Hi Cory, just found your site (bless Google), and it looks mighty useful. Regarding JomComment -- I presume there's a config setting that will enable site admins or moderators the ability to receive email when a comment occurs?

If that's the case, is the poster's address included in the message mailed to moderators? So if you wanted to respond privately to the person via mail, for example, you could easily do so.

I'm experimenting with !JoomlaComment right now, and while I am able to receive a message when a comment is written, the poster's email address is not included in the message. It's discoverable via the back-end, but that's a pain to have to resort to that.

I think ChronoComments is the best free option for Joomla 1.5 now. JXtended Comments is better overall and is in my view the best commercial option.

I found JomComment very disappointing when I bought it a few months ago. It has more integration options provided by others due to its popularity and early position in its niche market, but it is (or recently was) a little buggy (Azrul support ditched me after failing to fix things) and it did not play well with Joomla's core SEF (which is now very good).

JomSocial also lacks a basic "latest comments" module, and it has the usual bad Engrish buried in files outside the proper core language folders. Some of the language text is not even included in the language editing windows in JomComment's own admin section. Its administrative interface is poor, reminiscent of iJoomla products and others ported from Joomla 1.0 and simply not thought out for sensible organization and navigation.

I can't recall if it used tables for layout, but I wouldn't be surprised.
